Our Guide to Stag Dos at Prison Island Belfast

Jump to the good bits

If you’re planning a stag do in Belfast and you want something more than just sinking pints and grabbing a late-night curry, then you need to check out Prison Island Belfast. This place is built for stags with competitive activities that your whole group can get stuck into.

Why Prison Island Belfast is Great for Stag Parties

Belfast stag dos are usually heavy on the nightlife but every solid stag do needs a daytime activity to get everyone together and buzzing. That’s where Prison Island comes in. You’ve got a venue that’s jam-packed with a range of challenges that’ll test your brains, brawn and patience when your mate completely bottles it. You’re all in the mix, moving between challenges, winding each other up and keeping an eye on the scoreboard that shows exactly who’s smashing it and who’s tanking. It’s the sort of set up that guarantees banter.

Prison Island Challenge Cells

The main event is the Prison Island challenge cells. There are 31 of them, each one with a different mission. Some are physical, some are puzzles and some need good coordination and communication. You’ll go in as teams of two to five and you’ve got a set amount of time to get round as many as you can.

We booked an hour but left wanting more so would recommend playing for 90 minutes or two hours so you can get through as many of the rooms as possible. The challenges are really varied. One minute you’re crawling through lasers, the next you’re solving puzzles while your mate yells wrong answers at you, then suddenly you’re racing a timer with the group cheering from the sidelines.

The live scoreboard is savage. Every time you succeed you rack up points, every time you mess it up, everyone can see, adding a fun competitive element. If the groom’s team started strong and then absolutely crumbled in one of the trickier rooms, don’t let him forget it!

For a stag party in Belfast, it’s spot on. Everyone’s involved, the quieter lads get pulled into the action, the competitive ones get their fix and the groom ends up in the spotlight whether he wants it or not.

Axe Throwing

Now, this is where the groom turned into a legend. We’d already had the brains and the banter, but axe throwing is where the competition really kicks in. There’s just something about lobbing a sharp weapon at a wooden target that makes every bloke come alive. You walk in thinking you’ll be rubbish, but the second the axe sticks you’re strutting around like a Viking king.

The instructors give you the lowdown so you don’t end up embarrassing yourself straight away. They’ve got the technique nailed, and once you follow their tips on grip and stance it suddenly clicks. It’s not just about brute force either. The lads who went in swinging like they were chopping firewood were the worst. The ones who chilled out and found a rhythm nailed it.

The interactive games are a genius touch. Instead of just chucking axes at circles, we were playing Connect Four, Hangman and a version of darts that got properly competitive. At one point, we had two teams going head to head, and the tension when it came down to the final throw was unreal. By the end, we were all hooked. Axe throwing at Prison Island Belfast just gets it right. It’s safe and well run but still chaotic enough to feel like a proper stag activity.

Quiz Boxing

Next, it was on to Quiz Boxing. You’re in an arena with your own podium, lights, buzzers and touch screens to input your answers. You get a range of categories to choose from so it’s personalised to  your group. There are even rounds where you’re jabbing, blocking and stealing points from your mates.

We went for sport, music, history, geography, movies and general knowledge but threw in a few random ones to trip each other up. Nothing’s funnier than your mate confidently thinking he’s pressed the right answer while everyone else laughs as his podium turns red. The whole thing’s fast, competitive and hilarious. The scoreboard makes it even more brutal. It’s the kind of game that creates in-jokes that’ll carry on through the whole stag weekend.

ThinkBox

After you’ve had your fill of the challenge cells, axe throwing and Quiz Boxing, it’s time to give your brain a proper workout with ThinkBox. This is a full-on mental gauntlet that’ll have you yelling at your mates one second and high-fiving the next. ThinkBox is made up of 12 locked boxes, each packed with a mix of tricky tasks and clever locks.

Your aim is simple. Crack as many locks as you can, grab the tokens inside and outscore the other teams. Sounds easy, right? Not quite. You’ll soon realise that one missed step can send your whole team into chaos while the lads on the next table breeze past you. It’s competitive, hilarious and the perfect balance to all the physical chaos from the earlier challenges.

For a stag do in Belfast, ThinkBox is brilliant. It’s the moment to see which of your mates is the real brains of the operation and which ones are just all talk. There’s plenty of room for banter too, especially when someone insists they’ve got it sorted and then can’t even open the first lock. Splitting the tasks works best so some go for speed, logic or just shout encouragement while you frantically twist, pull and fiddle with locks. ,By the end, whether you’re celebrating a win or blaming the groom for costing you points, ThinkBox is guaranteed to get everyone laughing and properly involved. It’s clever, challenging and a solid way to mix up the physical antics with some mental firepower.
