Why Have a Stag Do in Lisbon?

Lisbon is an absolute legend of a stag destination and if you’re not already considering it, you should be! You’ve got loads of sunshine, culture, cheap drinks, tasty food, gorgeous views and epic nightlife for big nights out you’ll never forget. If the groom wants a send-off that’s got a bit of class but still gets messy in all the right ways, Lisbon delivers big time.

What makes Lisbon so good is how easy it is to have a top weekend. Everything’s close enough that you’re not faffing about with long journeys and the whole city just feels up for it. You’ve also got loads of activities to choose from such as beer bikes, boat parties, bar crawls, strip bars, paintball and so much more. Whether you want to get active, relax, drink, dance or sightsee, you’ve covered. And if you’ve overdone it the night before, you’ve got beaches nearby where you can drag yourselves out and recover in stunning surroundings.

The food is a big win too. You’re not living off dodgy takeaways but instead digging into big plates of grilled meat, fresh seafood and pastries. Plus it’s all pretty affordable, so you’re not constantly checking your bank balance every time you want another round.

Top 10 Stag Do Activities in Lisbon

  1. Boat Parties: This activity is non-negotiable when you’re in Lisbon. Get the lads on a boat, drinks in hand, tunes blasting and the whole group letting their hair down. You’ll cruise along the river, have a laugh, maybe jump in for a swim and kick off the weekend properly. It’s a night like no other!
  2. Beer Bike: Are ready for absolute carnage on this pub on wheels? You’ll be pedalling around Lisbon while drinking beers and shouting at each other to keep it moving. A professional chauffeur will steer so you’re free to singalong to the onboard playlist and enjoy drinks with your mates.
  3. Surf Lessons: Get yourselves out to the coast and give surfing a go. Half of you won’t have a clue what you’re doing, which makes it even more fun! You can expect loads of wipeouts, a lot of laughs and a solid excuse for a few well earned pints after.
  4. Go Karting: It’s time to see who can actually back up all that talk. Get ready for fast laps, dodgy overtakes and one lad taking it way too seriously. This activity always gets competitive and it’s always hilarious as you race against each other for glory.
  5. Strip Club Entry: This is a classic stag do activity for a reason. Get the groom involved, get him stitched up and enjoy a few cheeky drinks while things get a bit naughty and you watch gorgeous girls perform for  you. He’ll never hear the end of it and that’s exactly the point!
  6. Wine Tasting: This might not be the first activity you think of when planning your stag do but the wine is so good in Portugal that it has to be tried! During this chilled out activity, you’ll try a range of different local wines and can even munch some tasty food at the same time.
  7. Paintball: Paintballing is another classic stag do activity. Split into teams, get your gear on and go head to head on the battlefield where you’ll pelt paint at your mates. It really packs a punch so it’s super satisfying when you hit someone, especially if it’s the groom!
  8. Bottomless Brunch: Kick start your day the right way with tasty grub, free-flowing drinks and a fun atmosphere. It gives you time to reset, laugh about the night before and enjoy some quality food and drink with your mates.
  9. Escape Room: An escape game is perfect if you want something different. Split into teams and see who’s the brainiest in your group as you take on a range of fun puzzles, games and challenges. It turns competitive fast but will you team have what it takes to come out on top?
  10. Bar Crawl: Lisbon’s nightlife is epic and doing a bar crawl gives you the best opportunity to see as much of it as possible. Enjoy decent drinks, great views and fun atmospheres, surrounded by fellow party lovers. A friendly guide will show you around so you can focus on having fun. It’s a strong start to any night.

Stag Do Nightlife in Lisbon

When it comes to nights out, Lisbon absolutely smashes it. Bairro Alto is where it all kicks off. It’s basically one massive street party every night! You can grab drinks from little bars and take them outside, so the whole place is packed with people drinking, laughing and getting involved. Next, you can head down to the famous Pink Street with its big clubs, DJs and dancefloors that are begging for you to throw your best shapes on them.

If you want to ease into the night more slowly, rooftop bars are always a great choice. You’ll get a few rounds in, have a laugh with the lads and enjoy some gorgeous views. It’s a good way to get everyone warmed up without going too hard too early. And when you’re tired from all that partying, you’re never far from food. Late night spots are everywhere, serving up exactly what you need before you stumble back to wherever you’re staying.

Lisbon Stag Do FAQs

What’s the best area to stay in for a Lisbon stag weekend?
Bairro Alto and Cais do Sodré are both perfect places to stay. You’re right in the action so you can walk everywhere and don’t have to worry about getting home after a big night out.

How much money should we budget?
It’s good value compared to a lot of other European capital cities. Around £300 each will do you nicely for a weekend, more if you’re going all out with activities and extras. Drinks and food are decent prices so you won’t feel robbed after every round.

Are the nightclubs strict on entry?
Some are. Don’t turn up looking like you’ve just rolled out of bed and avoid wearing flip flops, vests, tracksuits and any offensive fancy dress. Keep it smart casual and you’ll be fine.

Do we need to book our activities in advance?
100%. The most popular activities and accommodation gets booked up very quickly, especially in the warmer months. Get it all sorted early and you’ll save yourself stress later.

Is fancy dress allowed?
You’ll get away with it in the day and in bars, but clubs can be a bit picky. Keep it sensible and not offensive or you might not get in. If in doubt, it’s always a good idea to ask the venue about fancy dress before you go.

What are the best daytime activities?
There’s loads to do in the daytime during your Lisbon stag do including boat parties, beer bikes, surfing, go karting, bubble football, paintball and so much more. There’s plenty to keep you busy.

How do we get around?
Taxis, Ubers and public transport are cheap and easy for your group. A lot of places are walkable anyway, especially around the main nightlife hotspots.

Is Lisbon safe for stags?
Yes, it’s a safe city. Just don’t be daft. Make sure to stick together, keep an eye on your stuff and you’ll be fine.

How far in advance should we book our stag party in Lisbon?
We recommend booking your stag three to six months before, especially if you’re planning to go in peak season. The best accommodation and activities sell out quickly.
