Introduction
Sligo, ‘The Land of Hearts Desire’… or as we like to say here, ‘The Land of Stag’s Desire’. The Capital of Ireland’s North West is a town of just under 20,000 people with everything a Stag Party could want. Its coastal location on the Atlantic Ocean is a mecca for surfers from across the world. Its beautiful scenery attracts Stag Dos in their droves for those looking for outside adventure and with its vibrant third level institution, Sligo IT, the local student population ensures a party vibe to rival any other Stag Destination.

Local knowledge
Ben Bulben
Sligo’s own ‘Table Mountain’ is one of the first sights you’ll see when approaching the town. It towers of Sligo, keeping a watchful eye on Stag Party shenanigans.

Strandhill
The soon to be home of a National Centre of Excellence for surfing. Strandhill is known internationally for its great waves and there’s no better way to brush off a Stag Party hangover than by catching some the morning after the night before

WB Yeats
Buried underneath the watchful gaze of Ben Bulben. The Nobel Laureate is considered one of the most important literary figures of the 20th century and Sligo inspired the vast majority of his work. Famous for penning that immortal Stag Do lines – “I go, we go, Stags go to Sligo”

The Showgrounds
Home of the ‘Bit O’Red’, Sligo Rovers, one of Ireland’s premier football teams. Games usually take place most Friday nights. Perfect before your Stag Do hit’s the town

Transport
General
The name of the train station in Sligo is McDiarmada Station and the bus station is also located right beside it. If your Stag Group is coming from abroad, the nearest Airport is Ireland West Airport, 54km’s away, approximately a 45-minute journey by car.

From Dublin – 209 km
By car: Take the M4 / N4 motorway, a journey time of approximately 2 hours 40 minutes

By train: The Dublin to Sligo train departs from Connolly Station, Dublin check out www.irishrail.ie for times and fares.

By bus: There are regular departures from Dublin’s central bus station Busáras to Sligo Town. Check out Irelands national bus carrier, www.buseireann.ie for more information. Fureys also offer a private bus service from Dublin to Sligo return.

Galway – 140 km
By car: Take the N17 national route, a journey time of approximately 2 hours

By bus: The Expressway Route 64 bus service from Galway to Derry stops off in Sligo as well as Knock International Airport. Further information can be found on www.expresssway.ie

Cork – 320 km
By car: Take the N17 national route, a journey time of approximately 2 hours

By bus: Take the Expressway Route 51 bus service from Cork to Galway, change in Galway and take the Expressway Route 64 bus service to Derry, stopping off in Sligo. Further information can be found on www.expresssway.ie

By train: Take the train to Dublin Heuston Station, change at Heuston Station and take the Luas (tram) to Connolly Station followed by the train from Dublin Connolly to Sligo McDiarmada. Further information can be found on the Irish Rail website

Belfast – 200 km
By car: Travelling by car from Belfast to Sligo takes approximately 2.5 hours. The quickest route is via the M1 From Belfast followed by the A4 to Enniskillen and then the N16 to Sligo Town

By bus: A regular service operated by Ulster Bus travels from Belfast Europa Bus Centre to Enniskillen. Change at Enniskillen and take the Bus Eireann route 458 to Ballina, stopping off in Sligo

By train: Take the train to Dublin Connolly Station. Change at Connolly Station and take the train from Dublin Connolly to Sligo McDiarmada. Further information can be found on the Irish Rail website.

Accommodation
Self Catering
Yeats Apartments and Houses are open for Sligo Stag groups for the summer months June to August. They offer 5 bedroom self-catering houses only a short 15-minute stroll from the centre of Sligo Town or a quick 5 minute spin in a taxi.

Hotels
The City Hotel is located just around the corner from Sligo’s main thoroughfare, O’Connell Street and is only a short 5-minute stroll from the train station. They offer a mix of twin, triple and quad rooms for Stag groups with a bar and restaurant on-site, as well as free parking for guests and the all-important Wifi throughout the hotel.

The Clayton Hotel is a 4-star hotel offering triple and quad rooms for Stag groups. This historic building is set on beautiful grounds behind Sligo’s third level institution, Sligo IT. It has a leisure centre and swimming pool attached just in case your Stag Group wants to sweat away from the excess from the night before.

The Southern Hotel is situated right next door to Sligo train and bus stations. Your Stag group can literally hop off the train or bus, walk down a few steps and you’re in the hotel lobby! This family-owned and operated 4-star hotel has been welcoming guests to Sligo since 1928.

Budget options
For the budget-conscious Stag groups, the Railway Hostel is the perfect cheap and cheerful option. Everything is within a short stroll and it is operated by a lovely gentleman who will give your Stag group a great welcome. The hostel has hot showers, ample toilet facilities, free Wifi throughout and free parking.

Day activities
No Stag Party in Sligo is complete without a bit of Surfing. Located next to the Atlantic Ocean, the waves in Sligo are renowned amongst the surfing community. Surfing is a great way for your Stag Do to brush the cobwebs off from the night before and set yourself up for another day of Stag escapades. The lads in Sligo are fully trained and well organised. All the necessary gear and equipment is supplied and to ensure you and the Stag Party are safe at all times.

If your Stag Party fancy releasing any pent-up anger then Clay Pigeon Shooting is the perfect activity. Your Stag Party will be fully trained by experienced, patient instructors in the use of their 12 gauge double-barrel shotguns. Only a 25 minute spin from Sligo Town and if Clay Pigeon Shooting doesn’t float your boat enough then they also offer a Shooting Combo or Rifle Shooting Competition.

Coasteering takes place in the stunning coastal village of Mullaghmore, located a 30-minute drive from Sligo Town. This activity lasts about two hours and combines rock scrambling, cliff jumping and adventure swimming in caves. This is the perfect activity in Sligo f any of the Stag Party are adventure-seeking adrenaline-fuelled water babies.

American Pool Party is the perfect Stag Do activity in Sligo for those lads who fancy a bit of competitive action before the fun kicks off. Located in the centre of Sligo Town the price includes the use of American style pool tables or full-size snooker tables for 2 hours, you will also get to indulge in some food platters and have a pitcher of beer between every four people in the Stag group. For the thirsty lads in your Stag Party, there’s a bar right next door 🙂

Night activities
We always recommend including the VIP Nightclub item in your Stag booking for Sligo. This is for one of Sligo’s top nightspots. There’ll be no ‘not tonight lads’ unless some of the group are finding it hard to stand straight and the Stag Party’s name will be on the guestlist so everyone can skip right by that long queue.

Food options
The top two food options for Stag groups are the order of the day in Sligo. Finger Food or 2-course meal. Both options are served up in one of Sligo’s top spots, so once everyone is sufficiently satisfied there’ll be banter aplenty all around you.
